Cal-IHEA is partnering with BluePath Health and Connecting for Better Health Coalition on April 28th, 2021 to convene a panel of experts to discuss how data sharing can support efforts to promote health equity across California. Health Information Exchanges (HIE) facilitate data exchange to appropriately access and securely share patient information among health care providers and delivery systems. Expanding HIE infrastructure would advance health equity in California by improving care coordination, and including behavioral health and social service information in the data exchange would support these efforts. Discussion topics include the need for a statewide HIE network to address equity issues, real world examples of potential value of HIE during the pandemic, recommendations for improving CA race and ethnicity data reporting, the importance of building trust in order to make these data available, and a call to action for California stakeholders.
