On June 2nd, 2021, CAL-IHEA collaborated with theUCLA Luskin Center for Innovation with support from theBlue Shield of California Foundation to provide a virtual, informational briefing addressing environmental health, climate protection, and environmental justice.
Across California, climate change and environmental hazards disproportionately burden low-income communities of color and contribute to adverse health outcomes. Legislative action to address these environmental inequities is urgently needed to improve community health and mitigate socioeconomic and racial health disparities. This event brought together environmental health researchers and community-based advocates to provide insights that can guide policy recommendations and advance environmental health equity in California. Our speakers discussed environmental justice as it relates to their research surrounding wildfires, air quality, and prenatal exposures.
