2022 Health Equity Scholars- Application open now!

The California Initiative for Health Equity and Action (Cal-IHEA) Health Equity Scholars Program aims to immerse undergraduate students in the state health policy community and promote careers in public health policy and management. Selected scholars will receive complimentary registration to the virtual 2022 Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP) Conference on February 7-9 2022, as well as training sessions on topics including health policy and policy analysis.


The Cal-IHEA Health Equity Scholars Program application is open to junior and senior undergraduate students from all UC and CSU campuses, and students from the University of Southern California. 

The application is DUE Friday, December 31st @ 11:59pm PST.

The ITUP Conference

The ITUP annual conference is the signature statewide health policy conference in California that brings together a diverse group of policymakers, policy experts, researchers, advocates, providers, and health plans to focus on advancing health reform in California. For more than 20 years, the annual ITUP conference has been the venue for state and local leaders to connect with colleagues around the state, stay current with emerging health reform successes and challenges and learn about best practices and policy opportunities in California and around the country.

As a scholar, you will…

  1. Receive complimentary registration to the 2022 Insure the Uninsured Project Conference on February 7-9, 2022.

  2. Participate in training sessions on topics pertaining to the legislative process, policy writing, and health policy. 

  3. Have access to networking opportunities with leaders in California health policy. 

  4. Produce a policy op-ed on a topic of your choice, which may be published on Cal-IHEA channels.
